Big Bear Valley Chipping Request Form

Curbside Chipping Program is available starting June 1, 2017

Early registration will begin May 15, 2017. Vegetation pickup can take up to two weeks after registration.

Funding for the chipping program is provided by the Cooperative Fire Program of the U.S. Forest Service, Department of Agriculture, Pacific Southwest Region, through the California Fire Safe Council and your Big Bear Valley Fire Agencies. The funds received are a direct result of the overwhelming community support received in the past years. This information is valuable for our community assistance grant funding. By providing this information you help your Big Bear Valley Fire Agencies meet their community support commitment.

Defensible Space Hours refers to the number of hours spent creating defensible space. These hours include removal of pine needles and leaves, thinning out trees, removing or modifying shrubs, cutting wild grasses and weeds to 4 (four) inches and removing branches from trees.

Program Criteria

• Material to be chipped must be on the property stacked along a road/driveway or an area allowing the chipping crew to work alongside the pile safely.

NO rootballs, limbs or tree trunks larger than 8" in diameter or 24" in circumference, construction lumber, limbs or vegetation from new construction sites, bagged material, pine needles, weeds, leaves, pine cones or loose bark will be accepted.

• To coordinate pick-up of pine needles, weeds and leaves, call Big Bear Disposal at 909-866-3942, or the Community Services District at 909-585-2565.

Participant declares that he/she is the owner of the property or is his/her agent. Participant grants the Big Bear Fire Department, contractors, bidders and agents permission to enter the property only for safety inspections and pile inspections, chipping services and monitoring. Participants acknowledge that the Big Bear Fire Department provides this service through contracts with chipping vendors. Participants agree to waive and release the Big Bear Fire Department and its employees, Boards, contractors, volunteers, officers, agents, and associate Council from all liability arising from participation in this program.
